Funeral service for Ruth “Lorene” Bates, age 92, of Lawton, Oklahoma, formerly of Frederick, was held 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 29, 2017, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Reverend Brent Morey and Dean Newville, officiating. Mrs. Bates passed away at her daughter’s home in Lawton, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, September 26, 2017. Burial was in the Grandfield Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home, of Frederick. A reception for family and friends was held on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. She was born on May 10, 1925, in Coalgate, Oklahoma, to Tom Matthew and Ethel (Long) Riley. She grew up in Wapanucka. She moved to Tillman County to be near family. She worked in the family restaurant business in Grandfield before moving to Hollister and then to Frederick, where she lived for over 40 years. She loved to cook and was well known for her baked pies. People would pay her to make her homemade pies. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sons: William Edward Earls, Floyd Ray Earls and Jerry Lee Riley; and eight brothers and sisters. Survivors include two daughters: Janie Knoles, of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Kathy Smith, of Cypress, California; two brothers: Herman Riley and wife Jem, of Frederick, Oklahoma, Larry Riley and wife Toi, of Thailand; 3 sisters Ginger Taylor, Cold Springs, Oklahoma, Glenda Dyer, Grandfield, Oklahoma, and Barbara Combs and husband Donnie, of Frederick, Oklahoma; grandchildren: Sheila, Jason, Tammy, Rosie, Connie, Brian, Gordan, Janet, Ernest, Keith, Lloyd Allan, Jeffrey, Robert, Tammy, Jerry Jr., Brian, Willie, and Brandi; numerous great grandchildren; and several great great grandchildren; as well as nieces and nephews.
