Jess Harold Delk, Sr., age 86, of Euless, TX, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017, in Bedford, TX. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery at Elgin, OK, on Thursday, January 26, at 11 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Orr Gray Gish Chapel in Frederick, OK. Family will receive friends Wednesday, January 25, 2017, from 6 to 8 p.m., at funeral home. He was born in Frederick, OK, on October 7, 1930, to Jesse C. and Verda (Bert) Mashburn Delk. Jess attended Union and Frederick schools. He joined the Navy at the age of and 17 and retired after 21 years as an E9. He served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and during the Cold War. He earned and was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal (2), the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Navy Good Conduct Medal (4), the Navy Unit Commendation (2), and the Meritorious Unit Commendation Ribbon. He married Goldie Zitterkob on March 5, 1959, in Frederick and shared almost 58 years together. After retiring from the Navy, he was employed as Maintenance Director at Tillman County Memorial Hospital in Frederick and later at McCurtain Memorial Hospital in Idabel, OK. His second retirement was from Civil Service at Ft. Sill, OK. He was of the Baptist faith and was active in churches where he was stationed as well as where they lived after retirement from the military. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, fishing, camping, traveling, gardening, watching sports, playing dominoes, driving through the Wichita Mountains, and going to Beavers Bend State Park. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bill Delk and Tommy Delk and his wife Norma; and sisters, Dorothy Manning and Mary Delk. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Goldie, of Euless; son Jess H. Delk, Jr., and his wife Catherine of Austin, TX; and daughter Gina and her husband J.R. Lambert of Euless; three grandchildren, Tyler Lambert and wife Emily of Bedford, Melissa Delk and Aaron Delk of Austin; and sister-in-law Connie Delk of Clovis, N.M; as well as much-loved nieces and nephews.
