Alfred "Carl" Marshall went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 11, 2017. He passed away at the Lawton/Fort Still Veterans Center, in Lawton, Oklahoma, at the age of 87 years, eight months and 28 days. He was born April 14, 1927, in the Hackberry Flat vicinity of Tillman County, near Frederick, Oklahoma, to William C. and Gladys (Stewart) Marshall. He attended #6 and Victory #11 schools. He was united in marriage to Dona M. Clayton on July 4, 1958, in Frederick, Oklahoma. He was drafted into the United States Army at Denton, Texas, and then inducted in Dallas on June 25, 1945. He served in the Korean War and was stationed several places both home and abroad, including Germany and Korea. Among the awards and decorations he received for his military service include: Army of Occupation Ribbon (Germany), Victory Ribbon 1 Overseas Bar, Good Conduct Medal, Good Conduct Medal w/ 2 Loops, Korean Service Medal w/ 2 Bronze Stars, UN Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal 5th Award, Sharp Shooter (Rifle M-14), and the National Defense Service Medal with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster. On June 30, 1967, at Fort Polk, Louisiana, he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant First Class. He retired after more than 20 years of active service and transferred to the United States Army Reserve. He was extremely proud of the fact that in 1959, he received his GED while at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. After his military service he worked for Tillman County. He loved to fish and he especially loved to watch his grandsons play baseball. He was a avid gardener. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Dona Marshall, on September 5, 2013; and a sister: Bess Stewart. Survivors include a daughter: Mary L. Chappell, of Chattanooga, Oklahoma; a grandson: Chad Chappell and wife Nina, of Chattanooga; three great grandchildren: Coy Chappell and wife Malaysha, Loy Chappell, Stormie Mills and husband Jeremy; and four great great grandchildren: Callen, Payson, Lilly and Cashton; sister-n-law: Ann Robertson and husband Clois; brother-n-law: Sherrill Clayton and wife Mary Helen; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home111 North 11th StreetFrederick, OK 73542(580) 335-2112
