Gerald "Jerry" Charles Murphy passed away Monday, May 09, 2016, at Memorial Nursing Center, in Frederick, Oklahoma, at the age of 69 years, 11 months and 27 days. He was born May 12, 1946, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to James G. Murphy and Rolande Pearl (Drosiers). He was raised by his beloved step-father Hank LaValley. He entered the United States Army on November 30, 1965, at Lawrence, Massachusetts. He served honorably in the Army with tours in both Vietnam and Korea. He was discharged on November 29, 1971, as a Specialist 5 (E-5). Among the decorations and awards he received include: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge Rifle M16, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, 1 Overseas Bar and Sharp Shooter Rifle M-14. He was united in marriage to Katie (Owens) Chavez on November 17, 1988, in Frederick, Oklahoma. He worked for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for 25 years until his retirement in 2008. He loved to fish and share his fishing stories with others. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother: John Murphy. Survivors include his wife: Katie Murphy, of the home in Frederick, Oklahoma; his father: Hank LaValley, of Methuen, Massachusetts; four daughters: Christy Boatman and husband Billy, of Vernon, Texas, April Mauric, of Oregon, Melissa Meyer, also of Oregon, Rachel Chavez and Jeremy Wright, of Lawton, Oklahoma; three sons: Mark Chavez and wife Sherri, of Carnegie, Oklahoma, David Chavez, of Lawton, Oklahoma, and Justin Chavez and wife Robyn, of Frederick, Oklahoma; two sisters: Kathy McLaughlin, of Metheun, Massachusetts, and Sharon Madensky, of Lawrence, Massachusetts; numerous grandchildren to include Zachary and Brandon Rivas, of the home in Frederick, Oklahoma; and three great grandchildren.
