Margia "Rene" (Gibbs) Shelton passed away Friday, March 11, 2016, in Wichita, Kansas, at the age of 87 years and 24 days. She was born to Mr. and Mrs. Amos Gibbs on February 16, 1929 in Tillman County, Frederick, Oklahoma. She had one older sister Jimmie Raley. She grew up on a farm where she would spend time with her dad and fellow farmers learning about the business of the farm industry. She sought after her higher education at Central State College, Edmond, Oklahoma where she met Bill Shelton and married August 31, 1948. By June 1950, to them was born a beautiful girl, Vicky. By November 1953, to them was born another beautiful girl, Shauna. The family lived in Tulsa and Rene was an English teacher from 1960-1962. They moved to Wichita and she began to study nutrition and natural healing. Blazing the trail for nutritional healing, she and Bill opened their first store Whole Foods Association in 1971. She was the woman who had the ideas and Bill was the guy that could get it done. Together they had a total of seven health stores, an art gallery-antique store, a dinner club in southwest Missouri, and finally owned farms in Kansas. She was ahead of her time, seeking knowledge in unusual studies and passing the knowledge onto her daughters, granddaughter, great-granddaughter, and family. For these reasons she will be missed greatly. An adviser on all subjects. Her death is preceded by her parents Amos and Edith Gibbs, sister Jimmie Raley, and husband Bill Shelton. She is survived by her daughters Vicky Shelton and Shauna Shelton, granddaughter Leah Gossett and great-granddaughter Emrie Gossett.
