Delbert "Ray" Burns passed from this life on Friday, February 26, 2016. He died in Frederick, Oklahoma, at the age of 67 years, two months and 13 days. He was born December 13, 1948, in Okemah, Oklahoma, to Bardwell and Pearl (Ott) Burns. Due to his father’s work, he moved around the country with his parents at an early age, including California where he attended school. He entered the United States Army on October 19, 1966, at Los Angeles, California. He served a distinguished military career including tours in Vietnam and Korea. He was honorably discharged SSGT on January 29, 1993, at Fort Benning, Georgia. Among the decorations he received for military service include: Good Conduct Medal w/4 AWD, National Defense Service Medal w/1 SS, Army Commendation Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle), Vietnam Service Medal w/4 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal-Gallantry Cross w/ Palm Unit Citation, NCO Professional Development Ribbon, and Combat Infantryman Badge. He was united in marriage to Brenda (McCoy) Atkinson on June 24, 1988, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He enjoyed fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Bardwell Burns and a step-son: Jimboe Atkinson. Survivors include his wife: Brenda Burns, of Frederick, Oklahoma; a son: Michael Ray Burns, of Okemah, Oklahoma; two step-sons: Don Atkinson and wife Kelli, of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Travis McCoy, of Frederick, Oklahoma; and five grandchildren: Tanner Atkinson, Kodey Atkinson, Amber McCoy, Skylar Atkinson and Brianna Atkinson.
