Margie M. Prescott

May 24, 1922 — February 24, 2016

Margie Mae (Smith) Prescott went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. She passed away at her home in Frederick, Oklahoma, at the age of 93 years and nine months. She was born May 24, 1922, in Chimes, Arkansas, to George Asa and Mary Zipora (Hefner) Smith. She moved with her family at an early age to southwest Oklahoma, and settled in the Hackberry Flat area. She graduated high school from Victory School in 1940. She attended Draughon’s Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was united in marriage to James Gordon “Jay” Prescott, on September 16, 1942, in Frederick, Oklahoma. Some of her employment experiences include: working for Dr. Bacon at the Frederick Medical Clinic; selling AVON products; owning and operating a home bakery business; being the activities director at Pioneer Manor Nursing Center; and serving as the church secretary for the First Baptist Church of Frederick, for 26 years (through 3 pastors’ tenure). She was a member of the Black Katz, which was established by and for the spouses of those serving in the military during World War II, as a support network as well as a social organization. She was a proud and active member of First Baptist Church, in addition to being the church secretary. She also volunteered in numerous capacities at the church including children’s Sunday school superintendent (3-4 year olds), Children’s Choir leader, Bible School teacher and various other ministry activities. She loved to send cards and write notes of encouragement to her church family and friends. She had a creative passion and enjoyed crocheting, sewing and most any handicraft activity. Over the past ten years or more, she made little cross-stitched “Crosses”  and gave them away as prayer reminders. In addition to crafts, she loved to bake and has an extensive recipe collection. But her greatest joy came from doing things for and spending time with her family.             In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Jay, on September 7, 1986. She was also preceded in death by her brother V. T. Smith on December 19, 2009, and her sister-in-law Gladys (Reaves) Smith on October 2, 2008.                  She is survived by two daughters: Mickey Suzanne Simpson and husband Gordon, of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Marcy Prescott, of Frederick, Oklahoma; two granddaughters: Kara Lynn Simpson, of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Suzanne Elizabeth (Simpson) Bodine and husband Eric, of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home(580) 335-2112
