Ruben Cruz Lopez passed from this life on Saturday, December 5, 2015. He died in Abilene, Texas, at the age of 75 years, 11 months and 15 days. He was born on December 20, 1939, in Taft, Texas, to Refigio M. and Carolina (Cruz) Lopez. He attended elementary school in Blooming Prairie, Minnesota. In 1957, he moved to Frederick. He enlisted in the United States Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, in 1960. He served in field artillery and upon being discharged in 1963; he re-enlisted and served a tour in the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a SGT (NCO) on April 29, 1966, at the U.S. Army Personnel Center, Oakland, California. Among the decorations received include: Marksman (M-1 Rifle), Sharpshooter Badge (Rifle), Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal. He was proud of his military service and also that he completed his GED while in the service. He was united in marriage to Anita Kay (Mayner) Dombrowski, in 1991, at Tesca Baptist Church. Ruben was self-employed, owning and operating a lawn maintenance business “Lopez Landscaping”, as well as general labor and handy-man jobs. He worked tirelessly mowing, hedging, trimming for so many in and around Frederick. He took pride in his work no matter how big or small the task. He was a Catholic by heritage and attended Tesca Baptist Church of Frederick for many years. He was preceded in death by his father; four brothers; Richard Lopez, Marco Lopez, and infant brothers: Rudolph Lopez and Robert Lopez one sister; Rose Mary Lopez. Survivors include his wife: Anita, of Frederick, Oklahoma; his mother: Carolina Lopez, of Abilene, Texas; three sons: Ruben Lopez, Jr. of Norman, Oklahoma, Anthony Lopez, of Frederick, Oklahoma, and Johnny Lopez and wife Andrianna, of Manitou, Oklahoma; two daughters: Elizabeth Nelson and husband Jeff, of The Woodlands, Texas, and Melinda Lopez, of Frederick, Oklahoma; four brothers: Refigio “Junior” Lopez, of McAllen, Texas, Abe Lopez, of Florida, Rafael “Flo” Lopez, of Texas, and Carlos Lopez, of Amarillo, Texas; six sisters: Rosa Linda Munguia, of Abilene, Texas, Catalina Ramirez and husband Paul, of Frederick, Oklahoma, Bonnie Vera Cruz, of Abilene, Texas and Mary Sue Olivas and husband Hector, of Abilene, Texas, Janie Lopez, of Abilene, Texas, and Melinda Perez, of Abilene, Texas; and nine grandchildren.Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home111 N. 11th StreetFrederick, OK 73542(580) 335-2112
