Jessie McCowen, Jr.

Jessie McCowen, Jr., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday morning, June 3, 2015. He passed away in Altus, Oklahoma, at the age of 68 years, nine months and 24 days. He was born August 10, 1946, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Jessie Sr. and Thelma (Thompson) McCowen. He attended school in Frederick, at O.E. Kennedy and graduating from Boyd High School in 1965. He then entered the Peace Corp and received training in Ashville, North Carolina. He served in Salvador as a forester (tree planter). He loved the country and its people and enjoyed volunteering there, and he returned in 1967. Jessie was a hard worker. Despite having medical difficulties, he always had a bright outlook. He will be missed, especially by his fellow residents and the staff members of English Village Manor. He was a gentle soul with a sweet spirit. He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church, in Frederick. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister: Thelma Louise Wilson. Survivors include two brothers: Earl McCowen, Altus, Oklahoma, and Roy McCowen, of Woodbridge, Virginia; five sisters: Carroll Ann Berman, of Southfield, Michigan, Dorothy Webb, Del City, Oklahoma, Linda Long, Fayetteville, Tennessee, Wanda McCowen, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Patricia Marshall, of Pasadena, California; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
