Vincent John Martinez

Vincent Juan "John" Martinez passed from this life on Saturday, March 7, 2015. He died in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, at the age of 80 years, 10 months and 16 dasy. He was born April 19, 1934, to Felix B. and Juana (Pedroza) Martinez, in Monrovia, California, the youngest of 16 children. He attended grammar school in Santana, California and Tia Juana, Mexico. He attended St. Anthony Seminary (Liberal Arts) in Santa Barbara, California, from 1951-1956. Then, he attended San Miguel (Franciscan) Seminary from 1956-1957. From 1957-1960, he studied philosophy at Luis Rey, California. From 19681970, he studied theology at Assumption Seminary, at San Antonio, Texas. On December 20, 1970, he was ordained to Catholic Priesthood, in Huehuetenango, Guatemala, and began to serve the Lord. He served a few years in a Guatemala Cathedral until June of 1975, and then he joined the Diocese of Fort Worth, Texas, and served a parish in Cleburne, Texas. He journeyed to Necedah, Wisconsin, and served a small parish there from 1977-1978. He came to Frederick in 1981 and served Holy Trinity Chapel. He was a "Traditional" Priest. He moved to Oklahoma City a few years ago when his health began to decline. Father John was a beloved son, brother and uncle. He was preceded in death by his parents and 13 brothers and sisters: Jose, Ursula, Maria Ynez, Sister Mary Emma, Pauline, Jovita, Joseph, Tony, Maria de Jesus, Pedro, Fred, Domingo, and Margarita. He is survived by a brother: Ralph Martinez and wife Esther, of California; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family. Orr Gray Gish & Tipton Funeral Homes (580) 335-2112
