Velma Kelley went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 4, 2014. She passed away in Altus, Oklahoma, at the age of 89 years, three months and 26 days. She was born on August 9, 1925, to John Edmond and Willie Ann (Elmore) Maines in Ardmore, Oklahoma. She grew up in Grandfield and was united in marriage to Reuben Carroll Kelley on April 19, 1948, in Vernon Texas. She was a homemaker and loved raising her children. She worked at Pioneer Manor Nursing Care Center as a cook and then also at Curtis Café and other restaurants around Frederick. She and her husband were avid gardeners and she enjoyed canning. She loved spending time with family, especially during the holidays and she always made her "yeast buns". She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and also attended Assembly of God Church and the Pentecostal Holiness Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband: Reuben, on March 17, 1994; a daughter: Shirley Hartnett and a son: Ronnie Kelley; three brothers: Dick Maines, Ed Maines and Loyd Maines; and four sisters: Allie Carr, Clemie Josefy, Opal Josefy and Emma Barnes. Survivors include four sons: Jimmy Kelley, Electra, Texas, Danny Kelley, Granbury, Texas, Jerry Kelley, Frederick, Oklahoma, and Ricky Kelley, of Davidson, Oklahoma; eight daughters: Glenda Morris, Tennessee, Carol Teague, Frederick, Oklahoma, Barbara Cryer, Electra, Texas, Connie Keyser, Davidson, Oklahoma, Rhonda Hicks, Frederick, Oklahoma, Brenda Jeffcoat, Frederick, Oklahoma, Darce Rojas, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Tracy Perez, of Frederick, Oklahoma; one sister: Bessie Cherry, of Grandfield, Oklahoma; 39 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
