SFC (Ret.) Alfred James Sergent went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 22, 2014. He passed away at his home in Hollister, Oklahoma, at the age of 85 years and three days. He was born October 19, 1929, to Delilah Margaret (Bailey) and Benjamin Harrison Sergent, in Wolf Point, Montana. He served honorably in the United States Army from 1948 to 1970 with tours of duty in Germany, Korea and Vietnam. He received numerous Awards, Medals and Ribbons; including Two Bronze Star Medals while serving with the 1st Battalion, 506th Infantry, 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam War. He married Darlene Anna (Galloway) Sergent on November 12, 1966, in Reno, Nevada. They lived in California until 1969, when he was transferred to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. After his retirement they moved to Lawton and raised their family. In 2008, he and his wife moved to Hollister where they attended and became members of the First Baptist Church of Hollister. He enjoyed gardening and taking long walks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife; one son: Jimmy Thornton; two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his twin brother: Albert Sergent, of Glasgow, Montana; brother: Delvin Sergent and wife Betty, of Farmersville, Texas; brother: Wilfred Sergent, of Helena, Montana; two sisters: Myrtle McCleery and husband Jim, of Helena, Montana, and Aleth Crampton, of Edina, Minnesota; two sons: Danny Bolerjack, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Terry Thornton, of Oklahoma City; three daughters: Lynn Hodell and husband Hans, of New Braunfels, Texas, Kim Davis and husband Brian, of Cache, Oklahoma, and Connie Sjolander and husband Skeet, of Hollister, Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren: Heather Casey and husband Jason, Jennifer Atchley and husband Clay, Haley Bolerjack, Danielle Bouwman and husband Matt, Rachel Pomykal and husband Joey, Kara Thornton, Tyler Davis, Cody Davis, Cheree Rivas, Callie Wayman and Collin Sjolander; and seven great grandchildren.
