Hazel Marie Thomason passed from this life on Monday, November 4, 2013. She died in Frederick, Oklahoma, at the age of 86 years, 11 months and 12 days. She was born on November 23, 1926, to P. A. and Lois A. (Smythe) Johnson, in their home in Hackberry Flats, Tillman County, Oklahoma. She was the youngest of eleven children. She attended the Sunrise Elementary School until she transferred to Frederick High School, where she played basketball. Her friends and classmates affectionately called her "Honey Johnson". She married Ruedell Holmes Thomason in 1943, prior to his being sent overseas in the USAAF. They were divorced in 1952. She was a housewife, mother, business owner, and elementary school teacher. She owned and operated Hazel's Hair Styles in Frederick for several years and was very successful. Her health dictated a life style change so she finished high school and attended college at Cameron University and Southwestern Oklahoma State University, graduating with a BS and MS in education. She taught self-contained elementary classes at Mosquero and Crown Point, New Mexico and then one year at Central Grade School in Frederick. She then went back to New Mexico and taught at the Twin Lakes Elementary on the Navajo Reservation. She finished her teaching career there at the age of 75 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers: Golia, Travis, Olin, Pelham, Tommy and James; four sisters: Adell Clapp, Lily Hester Johnson, Ruth Stewart and Joann Reynolds. She is survived by one son: Ronnie Ruedell Thomason, Lawton, Oklahoma; two grandchildren: Jennifer Marie Tabor of Cache, Oklahoma; and Ronnie R. Thomason, Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma; one great grand-daughter: Chyne Raber, of Lawton, Oklahoma; two great great grand children: Logan and Cassedee; and several nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces.
