Lucile (Kelly) Mitchell went to be with the Lord on April 26, 2013. She died at a Dimmitt, Texas, nursing care facility, at age of 94 years, nine months and five days. She was born July 21, 1918, on the land her father homesteaded in 1901 near Tipton, Oklahoma, to Marion and Mamie (Sturgess) Kelly. She attended Laing Schools near Tipton. After one year of attending Central State Teachers College in Edmond, Oklahoma, she married Olen Mitchell on July 31, 1939. They soon established farming operations near Tipton. In 1959, the family moved to the Tipton Childrens Home where she was responsible for the high school girl's dormitory. After several years she and Olen were employed at the Westview Boys Home near Hollis, Oklahoma. About 1964, they moved to Weatherford, Oklahoma, where they were responsible for operations of Quanah Parker Hall, a residence hall for 300 students at Southwestern State College. At the age of 49, Lucile completed her degree in Elementary and Art Education. They returned to their farming operations at Tipton while she taught at the Tipton Public School System. She made a great contribution to her families' genealogy and family history records. She enjoyed painting and teaching hand crafts in the many classes she sponsored. She enjoyed cooking for family and community events. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Lucile was preceded in death by her husband Olen, a granddaughter Deneen Mitchell, her sister Geraldine Suiter, and her five brothers: Orval, Afton, Elmo, Lewis and Lamar. Three siblings had died in infancy. She is survived by her son Dewight Mitchell and wife Betty, of Norman, Oklahoma, her daughters: Carroll Kilpatrick and husband David, of Amarillo, Texas, Kara Lou McDaniel and husband Kerry Don, of Arlington, Texas, and Cindy Jobin and husband Norm, of DeKalb, New York; five grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
