Charles Lee Vasser went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, He died in Altus, Oklahoma, at the age of 72 years, four months and 20 days. He was born January 31, 1940, to John and Leola (Jenkins) Vassar, at Crowell, Texas. His father worked in the oil fields and his family moved around a lot. Charles entered the United States Army on July 30, 1963 at Liberal, Kansas. Among the awards and commendations he received in the service were: Marksman (Rifle). He was honorably discharged on July 29, 1969. He worked in the oil fields as a roughneck as well. He moved around considerably from Kansas to Texas and Oklahoma. He spent a significant amount of time living in both San Angelo, Texas and Laverne, Oklahoma. He also worked in construction until 1987, when he became injured and unable to continue to work. He was a Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Billy Vassar, Clifford "Pete" Hammonds and an infant brother Delmer Ray Vassar; two sisters: Roberta Wallace and Joann Monroe. He is survived by two sons: Jeff Vassar and his wife Joanna, of Fort Worth, Texas, and Jr. Vassar and wife Ginger, of New York, New York; one daughter: Lisa Hanna, of Granbury, Texas; 7 grandchildren: Lial, Brianna, Neeley, Judson, and Korey Vassar, Kirsten and Emma Hanna; and one sister: Thelma Dowdy, of Tipton, Oklahoma.
