Helen Frances (Hammonds) Gish went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 16, 2012. She died in Indiana, at the age of 95 years, five months and two days. She was born November 14, 1916, in Grandfield, Oklahoma, to Luther H. and Olive Helen (Holcombe) Hammonds. She graduated from Frederick High School in 1935 and was the 20th Century award recipient. She received her bachelor's of science degree from North Texas State in Denton, Texas. She taught school at Claude, Texas, and then returned to Frederick to work as the librarian at the Carnegie Library of Frederick. She married David Wood Gish, Jr. on January 15, 1943, at Frederick, Oklahoma. Helen was a licensed funeral director for 34 years and was the proud co-owner of the Gish Funeral Home and Gish Furniture of Frederick, Oklahoma. She and her husband David were dedicated to serving the Frederick community that they dearly loved. She was truly a lady, elegant and known for her signature "hankie" that she always carried. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 60 years; one son: Mark Fielding Gish; a brother: James L. Hammonds; three sisters: Grace Shaw, Gladys Hammonds and Genevieve Epperson. Survivors include a son: David Wood Gish III and his wife Pamela Sue (Starr) Gish, of Borden, Indiana; two grandchildren: Rebecca Ellen (Gish) Trinidad and husband John Edward, of San Antonio, Texas, and David Wood Gish IV, of Borden, Indiana; and one great grandchild. She was a member Beta Delphian Club, Chapter A.S. PEO where she was a past-president and received her 50 year pin in 1996. She was also a member of the Presbyterian Church.
