Lenora Mae Gant

Lenora Mae Gant passed away Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus, Oklahoma. She was born March 13, 1919, at Hico, Texas, to Thomas Henry "Tom" and Clara Belle (Whitworth) Minyard. She came to Oklahoma at an early age. She received her education and graduated from Consolidated Henderson School. She was united in marriage to Carl Gant on May 28, 1939. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2000. She was a homemaker for many years but always had an interest in nursing, so after rearing her daughters, she enrolled in nursing school in 1963. Nursing was the joy of her life and she was dedicated to her profession for 21 years, until her retirement in 1984. After retirement, she and her husband spent 14 winters on the coast in Rockport, Texas, enjoying all the pleasures of the South. She had lived for the past 10 years at Plantation Village Retirement Center. The last four years of Charlie Hoppe's life, they were special friends. Not only Mr. Hoppe, but his entire family showed love and kindness to her. Lenora loved her church, she was a member of First Baptist Church in Frederick, where she worked with the Youth Department and taught Sunday School for teenage girls many years. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers: Claude, Jordan, Ernest, Lee and Don Minyard; four sisters: Ella J., Aline, Opal and Lorene. She is survived by two daughters: Carletta Ramsey and husband Charles, of Athens, Texas, and Judy Dollar and husband Jim, of Blair, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren.
