Funeral service for George Alfred Biggs, age 94, of Frederick, Oklahoma, was held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 5, 2009, at the Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Roland Behnke, pastor of Bethel Baptist Church, officiating. Mr. Biggs passed away Friday evening, October 2, 2009, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Burial was in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home. He was born on December 7, 1914, to Fred A. and Sophia L. (Weiss) Biggs in Frederick, Oklahoma. He attended school in Manitou, Oklahoma, graduating high school in 1933. He later attended Hill Business College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He married Maola Nigh on February 14, 1937, in Frederick, Oklahoma. He farmed for 43 years on the farm his parents homesteaded. The homestead was recognized as an Oklahoma Centennial Farm by the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture in 2001. After retirement, he and his wife moved in to Frederick, Oklahoma. He was on the Fair Board of Tillman County for several years. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church since 1937, serving as a deacon and as treasurer. He and his wife enjoyed taking cruises and traveling throughout the United States and Canada. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife: Maola; a son: George M. Biggs; and two sisters: Lena Sturgis, and Anna Jones. Survivors include one daughter: Ilena Vernon and husband Dennis, of Altus, Oklahoma; four grandchildren: Marty Biggs and wife Tracey, of Wichita Falls, Texas, Kevin Biggs and wife Stephanie, of Iowa Park, Texas, Rod Vernon, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Rick Vernon and wife Mary, of Altus, Oklahoma; nine great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
