Donald "Don" Doze

            Funeral service for Donald Alfred “Don” Doze, age 77, of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Reverend Les Banks officiating.

            Mr. Doze passed away Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at his home in Frederick. Burial will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home, of Frederick.

            The family will receive friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

            He was born October 1, 1940, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Alfred Anthony and Bonnie Estelle (Bray) Doze. He attended Frederick schools and graduated from Frederick High School with the Class of 1958. He attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University, in Durant. He was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Hudspeth on May 8, 1960, in Vernon, Texas. She preceded him in death on February 11, 1998. He and Shirley were active members of Trinity Baptist Church where Don served as a deacon as well as the song leader for many years. He attended an aviation school in Hollywood, California, and was part owner in a plane for some time. He was the owner operator of Doze Construction. He built barns, did concrete jobs including cellars and tackled handy-man jobs of just about any size. He also farmed for a brief period. He loved to hunt and fish and particularly enjoyed playing golf. He worked for over 20 years as the greens keeper superintendent at the Frederick Golf and Country Club. He had semi-retired, but even until he passed away, still continued to mow fairways and roughs, helping to maintain the course.

            He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a brother: Ronald Curtis Doze.

            Survivors include a son: Randy Doze; daughter Detra Ann “Dee Dee” Rodgers and husband Dennis, all of Frederick; brother: Stanley Doze and wife Cindy, of Mabank, Texas; five grandchildren: Lesley Hardy and husband John, Linsey Bacon, Laney Bacon, Chance Doze and wife Kristen, Crystal Whitson and husband Lance, and Ami Perry; and nine great grandchildren: Landon, Lawson, Layton, Braydan, Corban, Mallory, Dane, Penn and Kale.
