Eldon Box

            Private family funeral service for Eldon Lee Box, age 72, of Elk City, Oklahoma, formerly of Frederick, will be held at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Pastor Nathan McGee, First Nazarene Church of Elk City, officiating.

            Eldon passed away at his home in Elk City on Saturday morning, May 16, 2020. Burial with U.S. Navy military and Veterans honor guard rites will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery.

            The visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2020, at the funeral home.

            He was born November 5, 1947, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Lloyd and Grace Lee (Hagy) Box. He attended Manitou school until his senior year then graduated from Frederick High School. He entered the United States Navy on September 16, 1966, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He served in the Vietnam War and was captured by the enemy and “missing in action” for a period. Among the awards and decorations he received include: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (w/ 4 Bronze Stars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal. He was honorably discharged on September 15, 1972, from the USS Thomaston, at San Diego, California. After his Navy discharge, Eldon attended Texas Tech, in Lubbock, Texas. Eldon worked in electronics in the military and afterward continued to work as an industrial electrician until he retired. He was a proud member of the labor union for over 20 years and served many years as the President of the Laborers’ International of North American National (Industrial) Pension Fund. On December 29, 1983, he was united in marriage to Yvonna Head, at Frederick, Oklahoma. Eldon was passionate about young people and he coached little league baseball for many years when his sons were young. He and Yvonna were active at church, in the First Baptist Church in Frederick, and the First Nazarene Church in Elk City.

            In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his son: Lucas Box.

            He is survived by his wife: Yvonna, of the home in Elk City; three sons: Brian Jennings and Emma, of Oklahoma City, Nathan Box and Brandon, of Seattle, Washington and Clayton and Alicia Box, of Elk City; a daughter: Jonetta Jennings, Elk City; a brother: Galen and Sharen Box, of Fairview; and nine grandchildren: Chayton Forbes, Darcy Forbes, Braxton Forbes, Jaycie Love Jennings, Hunter Jennings, Miguel Box, Gabriela Box, Austin Box and Jazmine Box.

            Memorial contributions may be sent to the Fisher House Foundation (Home for VA/Military families with loved ones in the hospital), 12300 Twinbrook Parkway #410, Rockville, MD 20852, in loving memory of Eldon Box.
