Funeral service for Erma Larue Petty, age 85, of Tipton, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 26, 2018, at the First Baptist Church of Tipton with Rev. Les Banks, pastor, and Rev. Harold Gaches, pastor of First Baptist West, Lawton, officiating.
Mrs. Petty passed away Monday morning, September 24, 2018, at Jackson County Memorial Hospital, in Altus, Oklahoma. Burial will be in the Tipton Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish & Tipton Funeral Homes.
She was born March 18, 1933, in Tipton, Oklahoma. Her parents were Morris and Stella (Strickland) Shepherd. She attended Tipton schools and graduated from Tipton High School with the Class of 1952. While she was in school, she worked at the Tipton Theater. She attended Draughon’s Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was united in marriage to Garnet Wallace “Buddy” Petty on November 25, 1959, at the First Baptist Church of Tipton. She worked many years as a bookkeeper for Everson Electric. She also worked for First National Bank of Tipton and the First State Bank of Altus. She loved her family and often served as caregiver to many elderly in her family. She also loved shopping trips with family. She was an impeccable housekeeper. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister: Mary Phelps; and a grandson: Geoffrey Petty.
She is survived by her husband: G. W. “Buddy” Petty, of the home in Tipton, Oklahoma; a son: Greg Petty and wife Chris, of Tipton; a brother: Morris Shepherd and wife Viola, of Tecumseh, a sister: Mickey Sellers and husband Dwight, of Edmond; two grandsons: Bryan Petty and wife Tracie, of Edmond, and Daniel Petty and wife Amber, of Tipton; and five great grandchildren: Sydney, Reese, Madison, Mylee and Geoffrey.
