Esperanza Hope Hernandez

            Funeral mass for Esperanza “Hope” Hernandez, age 66, of Tipton, Oklahoma, will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 31, 2020, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church with Rev. (Fr.) Joseph David, pastor, officiating.

            Rosary and visitation will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Tipton Municipal Cemetery, Tipton, under the direction of Orr Gray Gish & Tipton Funeral Homes.

            She was born February 28, 1953, in Corpus Christi, Texas to Juan Jesus and Maria Luisa (Moreno) Puente. Her family traveled across the country as her parents were migrant workers. They spent time in Texas, Oklahoma and Arizona, before making Tipton their home. She was united in marriage to Mario Hernandez on December 1, 1974, in Tipton, Oklahoma, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Hope received her bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development and Elementary Education from San Diego University and taught at Villa Teresa Catholic School, a private school in Oklahoma City. She was a Catholic and was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Tipton, while it was there and also attended St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Frederick.

            She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother: Ernesto.

            Survivors include three sons: Mario Hernandez, Jr. and wife Nancy, Alvaro Hernandez and wife Robyn, and Filiberto Hernandez and wife Lavenia, all of Oklahoma City; a daughter: Odilia “Lili” Hernandez and husband Ricardo Gutierrez, also of Oklahoma City; seven brothers: Henry Puente and wife Monica, of Yukon, Robert Puente, Tipton, Bernabe Puente, Lawton, Angel Puente, of Dallas, Texas, Benito Puente and wife Dianna, of Lawton, Jaime Puente, Sweetwater, Texas, and Juan J. Puente, Jr., and wife Karri, of Garland, Texas; 18 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
