Galen Hicks

            Funeral for Galen Dean Hicks, age 50, of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 20, 2020, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Rev. Tim Billy, pastor of  First Baptist Church of Thomas, officiating.

            Mr. Hicks passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, in Lawton. Family and friends gathering will be Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

            Burial will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery, Frederick.

            He was born February 18, 1969, in Lawton, Oklahoma. He grew up and attended Frederick schools and graduated from Frederick High School with the Class of 1988. He was a proud Bomber and was an outstanding athlete, especially football. He attended college at Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas, where he played football and also wrestled as well. He was also a gifted artist. As far as his work history, he could do most anything. He was a superb handyman and could fix anything. He worked as an auto mechanic, plumber, electrician, but primarily his work was carpentry in construction. He loved to fish and hunt and he also enjoyed a passion for cooking, specializing in fry bread and barbeque. He was an avid Oklahoma Sooners fan, especially football.

            He was preceded in death by his mother: Louella “Ann” (Hicks) Fobb; and a brother: Adam Roy Hicks.

            Survivors include his father: Paul Leyja, of Lawton; two sons: Christopher Hicks, of Wisconsin, and Jayden Hicks, of Missouri; two daughters: Ashlen Hicks and BreAnna Jefferson, both of Idabel; a sister: Lori Perez, of Frederick, and a brother: Gregory Paul Leyja, of Lawton; six grandchildren; a maternal aunt: Vera Hudson and husband Cordell; paternal aunts: Maggie Rea and husband Froline, and Isabel Ramirez; maternal uncle: Eddie Joel Hicks and nephews: Andrew Dean Perez and wife Sarah and Carlos Perez.
