Hardie Edward Watson, Jr.

            Funeral service for Hardie Edward Watson, Jr., age 79, of Manitou, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Rev. Les Banks officiating.

Mr. Watson passed away Friday, March 01, 2019, at a Lawton, Oklahoma, hospital.  Burial will be in the Schofield Cemetery, east of Manitou.

He was born September 20, 1939, in rural Manitou, Tillman County, Oklahoma, to Hardie and Nettie (Spilley) Watson. He attended Manitou schools and graduated high school in 1958. He worked on the family farm. He raised cattle, custom cut and baled hay as well as working at the Manitou Gin for several years. He worked for an auctioneer and also was caretaker for the Schofield Cemetery. He was generous and would give anyone anything he had. He was always willing to lend a hand to a neighbor with farming, ranching or whatever was needed. He was an avid hunter and also enjoyed cooking, telling stories and watching John Wayne movies. He loved his Blue Heeler dogs. He was always happy and fun to be around, no matter his circumstances and he never complained. He always wanted to take “the back roads” wherever he would go. At Ayers Nursing Home, he always entertained whether it was emceeing a party, playing music as the disc jockey or playing movies. He was a Methodist and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Manitou, where he attended there and at the Snyder Methodist Church.

Survivors include a sister: Norma Jean Fonte, of Bakersfield, California; and nieces: Betty and Janice; as well as numerous cousins to include: Darlene Kirk, of Tipton.
