Jo Anna Avery

            Funeral service for Jo Anna Avery, age 94, of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2019, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Eddie Beard, Minister of the Duke Church of Christ, officiating.

            Mrs. Avery passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019, at Memorial Nursing Care Center in Frederick. Burial will be in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home.

            Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.

            She was born December 16, 1924, in Manitou, Oklahoma, to Andrew Joyner and Winnie (Vick) Wood. She attended Frederick schools and graduated from Frederick High School. She was united in marriage to Elton “E.T.” Avery on September 10, 1941, in Frederick. He preceded her in death on May 28, 2009. She was stay at home housewife and mom. She loved soap operas and enjoyed crossword puzzles. She also had a passion for playing dominoes and her family referred to her as “the Domino Queen.” She was an animal lover and especially loved feeding and watching the birds. She never met a stranger. She was a joker and prankster and the family has countless stories of her shenanigans. She was a member of the Frederick 13^th & Josephine Church of Christ.

            Survivors include: nine grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a daughter-in-law: Sue Sisson.

            In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by: five brothers and one sister; a son: Elton Avery; two daughters: Nina Wilkerson and Becky Ann (infant).

            Memorial contributions may be sent to the Memorial Nursing Center, 319 E. Josephine, Frederick, OK 73542, in loving memory of Jo Anna Avery.
