Graveside service for Joe Raff “Pappy” Orr, age 85, of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2025, at the Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, Oklahoma, with Rev. Roy Vinson (brother-in-law) officiating.
Mr. Orr passed away Monday, February 24, 2025, in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Family and friends reception will be held at the Orr Gray Gish funeral home on Thursday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a “Time to Share” at 7:00 p.m.
A visitation will be held at the Lebanon Baptist Church, Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Burial with Chickasaw Honor Guard rites will be in the Lebanon Cemetery under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home.
He was born July 22, 1939, in Lebanon, Oklahoma, to Clyde Overton and Dora “Maxine” (Massey) Orr. He attended Lebanon school and then Madill High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1957. He was drafted into the United States Army and served two years until his honorable discharge as Specialist 4. After his active service, he served in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was united in marriage to Brenda Lou Vinson on June 9, 1962, at the Lebanon Baptist Church. He began his career in the banking industry in 1958, and worked in Madill and Tishomingo. He retired in 2010, after 52 years of banking. He graduated the University of Colorado School of Banking in 1992.
He is a past president of the Marshall County Chamber of Commerce, Madill Lions Club, Tishomingo Lions Club, Madill Alumni Association, Johnston County Chamber of Commerce and Johnston County Industrial Authority. He has served on the board of Indian Nation Community Agency services and the Chickasaw Nation Industrial Development Commission, and Chickasaw Nation Spirit Trails ‘2000’. He was a member of the Chickasaw Warrior Society (Veterans). He was a proud member of the Lions Club for 65 years, with tenure in Madill, Tishomingo, and Frederick.
He moved to Frederick in 2012, and was an integral part of Orr Gray Gish & Tipton Funeral Homes. He was active in church and community.
He loved sports and enjoyed being the “Voice of the Bombers” (KYBE 95.9 FM- The Coyote) for the Frederick Lady Bombers fast-pitch softball team for several years. He was a deacon and served in numerous positions at Baptist Churches in Madill (First Baptist), Tishomingo (Calvary Baptist), and Frederick (First Baptist).
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother: Charles Edward Orr; and a sister: Anna Mae (Orr) Burns.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years: Brenda Lou “Mimi” Orr, Frederick, Oklahoma; three sons: Michael Joe “Mike” Orr and wife Sherry Lou (Barns) Orr; David Alan Orr and wife Paula Kay (Pool) Orr; and Vinson Neal Orr and wife Cheryl Leigh (Douthit) Orr; seven grandchildren: Brittney Michelle (Orr) Morton and husband Phillip Norman Morton; Brandon Michael Orr and wife Desirae Lynn (Riley) Orr; Mikayla Andrea (Orr) Little and husband Austin Ryan Little, all of Ada, Oklahoma, Madison Avery (Orr) Edwards and husband Jesse Dylan Edwards, of Stroud, Oklahoma, Caden Paul Orr, Grapevine, Texas; Brooke Nikol Orr and fiancé Samuel Massey Smith, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Paige Lauren Orr, of Stillwater, Oklahoma; five great grandchildren: Olivia Kay Morton, James Oliver Morton, Benjamin Riley Orr, Remington Ryan Little, Ridge Easton Edwards, and two on the way; nieces: Shari Friedman and husband Richard, and Beverly McMillen and husband John; nephews: Ronnie Orr and wife Diana, Brad Burns and wife Jennifer, Bobby Burns and wife Leanne, Blake Burns and wife Jamie; and numerous great nieces and nephews and cousins.
