Memorial Service for John Mark Horton, age 62, of Chickasha, Oklahoma, formerly of Frederick, will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2024, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Dr. Michael Horton officiating.

He was the fourth of four children, born on September 27, 1961, Dr. Joe Charles and Alma Janet Horton, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He passed peacefully from this life into the loving arms of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on January 11, 2024. 

John and his family moved from Nebraska back to Frederick when he was less than a year old. Thus he always rejected the idea that he might actually be a "Cornhusker" and gladly adopted the Sooners moniker. John loved football and enjoyed every season he played as a Frederick Bomber, culminating with his graduation in 1980. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and working on anything mechanical. After graduation he headed to Tulsa where he earned a certificate in aviation maintenance from Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology. After spending the biggest part of his adult career at Tinker Air Force Base, he retired from Federal Civilian Service on December 31, 2021.

John was preceded in death by his beloved parents, an older brother Perry Wade Horton, and two nieces, Lacie Horton and Samantha Horton Devlin. 

He is survived by his brother Charles P. Horton and wife Jackie of Granbury, Texas, his sister Carol and husband Sam Griffin of Chickasha, Oklahoma, one niece Kristin and husband Brian Archer of Perkins, Oklahoma, and four nephews: Nick Horton and wife Nikki of Crescent, Oklahoma, Sam J. Griffin and wife Saradee of Goldsby, Oklahoma, Daniel G. Griffin and wife Austin of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Matthew M. Griffin and wife Megan of Chickasha, Oklahoma and numerous great nieces and great nephews, all who loved him very much.
