Lawrence A. “Larry” Duncan, age 78, of Los Lunas, New Mexico, passed away Sunday, April 2, 2023. He was born May 30, 1944, in Frederick, Oklahoma, to Walter “Jack” and Nelma “Claudine” (Woods) Duncan.
He attended Weaver Consolidated No. 13 grades 1-12, where he participated in sports, class plays, wood shop, etc. and drove the school bus his Junior and Senior years. Larry was the Valedictorian of his class of 10 students. During school year summers employed as farm worker (tractor driver) for both his father and neighboring farmers, home construction laborer in Frederick, and as a field hand for local Rural Electric Cooperative.
He attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma for one and one half years, then transferred to Central State College (now University of Central Oklahoma) in Edmond, Oklahoma. He was united in marriage to Sherry Ann McCurry. His work career included: Tinker Air Force Base in Logistics Command; Defense Evaluation Support Command at Kirkland Air Force Base, in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Air Force Operational Test and Evaluation Center; and Contract Closeout office and Air Force Research Laboratory. He retired after serving over 40 years of U.S. Air Force Civil Service. In October of 1988, he married Barbara Gail (Myers) Gentry. She preceded him in death, as well as his father: Jack Duncan.
Survivors include his mother: Claudine Duncan, of Frederick, Oklahoma; a son: Scott Duncan and wife Jan, of Oklahoma City; a step-daughter: Tammy Bergeson and husband Eric, of Longmont, Colorado; a step-son: Cliff Gentry and wife Ives, also of Longmont, Colorado; two sisters: Dena Northcutt, of Frederick, Oklahoma, and D’Ann Gabriel and husband Paul, also of Frederick, Oklahoma; two nieces: Michelle and Nicole Northcutt; a nephew: Matthew Gabriel and wife Shianne; and a good friend of many years: Eric Wilmont.
A memorial graveside will be held at a later time with local arrangements by Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home of Frederick, Oklahoma.
