Max Murray Hurst

Max Murray Hurst was born on November 26, 1931 to Thomas Payne and Emma (Hawkins) Hurst in Frederick, Oklahoma. He passed away on August 3, 2024 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Max grew up on the family farm west of Frederick near his grandparents. He learned to love the land by walking the fields with his grandfather, George Simon Hawkins. He later farmed the same land for 54 years passing on the legacy of his 100 year farm.

Max graduated from Frederick High School in 1949 and then attended one year of business school. He worked for and retired from the US Postal Service after 30 years. He was a member of the Frederick Lions Club and the Frederick Country Club. He was a loyal fan of the Bombers, the Sooners, and the Dallas Cowboys. Farming and golf were his hobbies.

Max’s most important decision was made on March 22, 1964 when he was saved and baptized at First Baptist Church, where he was a lifelong member.

Max’s first love was his family. He married Barbara Dixon on January 25,1951. They were married for 69 years. Barbara preceded him in death on March 25, 2020.

Max is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Mike Hagy of Edmond, Ok; his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Paula Hurst of Oklahoma City, Ok; his grandchildren: Heath Hagy and wife Erin of Bismarck, North Dakota; Holt Hagy and wife Jenna of Edmond, Ok; April Roberts and husband Jason of Texico, New Mexico; and Dakota Sherrill of Jacksonville, Florida. Max is also survived by six great grandchildren: Max McCann Hagy, Heidi Hara Hagy, Hawkins Holt Hagy, Verity Jane Roberts, Leighton Joy Roberts, and Shepherd Jack Roberts.

To quote our dad and loving Pa, “I don’t know why God was so good to me. ‘Til we are all together again…”
