Memorial graveside service with United States Marine Corps honors for Richard Don “Dickie” Dickerson, age 84, of Frederick, Oklahoma, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 22, 2020, at the Davidson Cemetery, Davidson, Oklahoma, with Dr. Shane Kendrix, pastor of Frederick First Baptist Church, officiating.
Mr. Dickerson passed away Monday, August 17, 2020, at United Regional Hospital in Wichita Falls, Texas. The family will gather and receive friends on Saturday at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Orr Gray Gish Funeral Home, 111 N. 11th Street, Frederick, OK 73542, (580) 335-2112.
He was born March 30, 1936, in Davidson, Oklahoma, to Leo and Modena (King) Dickerson. His step-father Arvel McClure and mother Modena raised him in Whiteface, Texas, where he graduated high school. As an athlete, he participated in football, basketball and track and many team trophies are still on display at the school today. He was ordained as a Baptist minister. Soon after, he entered the United States Marine Corps. He served honorably and was discharged as a Drill Instructor. He was also a Musical Specialist in the Marine Corps Band. After his discharge from active duty, he continued to serve as a reserve. Most of Dickie’s career was in management in the construction industry. He returned to southwest Oklahoma six months ago to live out the rest of his life at the place where he was born.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son: Tonnie Dickerson and a brother: Max Dickerson.
Survivors include four sons: Donnie Dickerson and wife Alba, of Baytown, Texas, Terrie Dickerson, of Arizona, Denis Dickerson, of Frederick and Andrew Dickerson and fiancé Katie Brozek, of Fort Worth, Texas; a daughter: Channie Dickerson, of Reno, Nevada; six grandchildren: Stephanie Mathrusse, Tonnie Dickerson, Chrisesth Compton, Bleinie Dickerson, Eneida Dickerson and Tessa Stokes; and seven great grandchildren: Brodie and Ellie Dickerson, Faryn Mathrusse, Kaden Barns, Kai Compton, Deidra Stokes and Raine Stokes.
