Funeral service for Ricky Sherril Dean (Guitar Man), age 68, of Elk City, Oklahoma, former Grandfield and Frederick resident, will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Orr Gray Gish Chapel with Rev. Les Banks officiating.

Mr. Dean passed away peacefully Monday, February 6, 2023, at his home in Elk City.

Burial with military honors will follow in the Frederick Memorial Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

He was born June 11, 1954, in Comanche, Oklahoma, to Richard Morris “Dick” Dean and Imogene Geneva “Jeannie” (Witt) Dean. He attended Grandfield schools and as a youth worked for his father in his heavy equipment business. He graduated from Grandfield High School with the Class of 1973. During his senior year of high school, he met Jo Ann Culwell, the love of his life. They were united in marriage on April 24, 1973, at Wichita Falls, Texas. He enlisted in the Army National Guard and Reserves in 1973 at Walters, Oklahoma. He worked as a military policeman. He was honorably discharged on March 31, 1979, as a Specialist Four DET with the 180th Infantry. He lived in Frederick from 1977 to 2010 then moved to Elk City where he lived until the time of his death. Ricky worked as a truck driver most all of his working life and his trucker handle was “Guitar Man.” He had various trucking jobs and was working for Hamms and Phillips from 2010 until his passing. He was an avid movie watcher and loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his twin sister: Vickie; and two brothers: Larry and Delroy.

He is survived by his wife: Jo Ann Dean, of the home in Elk City; a son: Patrick Herring, of Amarillo, Texas; a daughter: Crissy Reed and husband Greg (aka “Gary”), of Tipton; grandchildren: Payton Herring and wife River, Cheyenne, Wyoming, Shelby Ballard and husband Austin, of Walters, Amber Craig and husband David, of Sayre, and Houston Dean and wife Kaylan, of Frederick: great grandchildren: Braylon Herring, Bodie Craig, Cooper, Cody and Kimber Ballard.
